Help in SoapUI

Help Links

There are two types of help links in SoapUI: help links and read more links.

Help Links

# Link Description
1 Help link icon Brings you to reference page
2 Read more link Brings you to an information page

Help Icon

The Help Icon takes you to a page relating to the feature you are using.

Read More

The Read More link takes you to more general information about the feature or workflow related to the feature.

How to use

Use the help icon when you want explanations of gui elements or what settings mean. Use the Read More link to find out the purpose of the feature, or get more information.

The Help menu contains links to helpful web pages.

Search Forum

You can search the SoapUI.org online forum directly from inside SoapUI. The search is accessible both from the Help menu, and as a component at the top right of the SoapUI main window.

To access the forum search from the help menu, select Search Forum.

Enter search test in the textbox and click the OK button.

The Search forum component is available at the top right hand side of the SoapUI main window.

To search the forum in the component, enter search test in the textbox and click the Search search icon.

 

License Troubleshooting

Error messages and their common causes

Unable to activate license

Unable to activate license

Common cause: User is trying to do an online activation. Network security is not allowing communication with SmartBear’s licensing server.

Suggested solution: Try offline activation or reach out to your network administrator to resolve connectivity issues.

In order to renew your license…

Unable to activate license

Common cause: You are trying to install a renewal license, but there is no previous license installed.

Suggested solution: The original license needs to be installed first. If you cannot find the original license, please contact our support.

Unable to activate license

Common cause: This error happens when attempting to activate a license that has previously been activated in a different environment.

Suggested solution: Deactivate the license in the environment where it has previously been activated.

Missing valid license

Missing valid license

The "missing valid license" error may occur for two reasons:

Common cause: You were trying to activate a renewal license without a previous license, and you would receive this error right after the renewal message above

Suggested solution: The original license needs to be installed first. If you cannot find the original license, please contact our support.

2.

Common cause: The user does not have admin privileges and is not allowing SoapUI Pro to read and write to the users HOME directory.

Suggested solution: Ask your administrator to provide you with machine administrator rights or to activate the SoapUI Pro license for you with administrator credentials.

No deactivation option in Help menu

No deactivation option in Help menu

Common cause: A previous attempt to perform Offline Deactivation process was not finished properly.

Suggested solution: Send information received from the offline deactivation process to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Unable to acquire a license lock

Unable to acquire a license lock

Common cause: You are starting SoapUI Pro with a floating license server, and the the floating license cannot be allocated, most likely because the number of concurrent users for this license server has been reached.

Suggested solution: Ask another user running SoapUI Pro to close their instance. Or wait for until a floating license becomes available.

There is no license allocated to you

There is no license allocated to you

Common cause: The floating license has not been allocated in the license server.

Suggested solution: Go into the license server and open “License Storage.” You can allocate users to the license on the right hand side.

Non-JRMP server at remote endpoint

Non-JRMP server at remote endpoint

Common cause: SoapUI cannot communicate with the license server to retrieve the license. This could be cause by a number of things, including - but not limited to:

  • Incorrect hostname or IP address
  • Incorrect port
  • Network restrictions

Suggested solution: Confirm that SoapUI Pro is pointing to a working endpoint.

Renewing your License



If you have purchased a renewal license from us, simply navigate to Help -> Update License.

Renewing your license

In the next window browse to your renewal license and click 'OK'.

If you ran into any issues during license activation, please consult with our License Troubleshooting guide. If you are still experiencing issues, please contact our support.

Installing your renewal license on a machine without a license to begin with



If you do not have an expired license installed you will need to follow the steps below. When you open SoapUI Pro without an active or expired license, you should see the following prompt:



Click on "Browse..." and locate your Expired license file, it could be a .key file (most recent license model) or a .lic file (older license model). Please make sure that the expired license that you are using is not a renewal license. If you cannot locate your original license please Click here to open a support ticket




You should receive a message letting you know that this license is expired. Accept the message



You will receive a second message asking if you want to install your renewal, click on yes unless you want to switch to "Courtesy mode"




You should receive a prompt for your license file now. Browse for your renewal license and click on "OK"




Accept the license agreement and you should be good to go!!!

API Example Projects

SoapUI has great support for testing of modern APIs. The following example projects and tutorials show you the details about creating and setting up API testing projects.


To get started with one of the sample projects you need to:

  1. Download it to your computer:Right-click the download link and save the file to a local directory.
  2. Import it into SoapUI: Start SoapUI and select “Import Project” from the File menu. Browse to the downloaded file and press OK – SoapUI will load the project and it will be available in your SoapUI workspace.

The examples are all hosted on GitHub in a dedicated repository.
